MEN’S BASKETBALL: UT’s Roach undergoes successful surgery

University of Texas men’s basketball guard Kerwin Roach underwent successful surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee on Tuesday in Austin, UT announced.
Roach, a 6-foot-4 North Shore graduate, sustained the torn meniscus during a non-contact drill at Chris Paul’s Elite Guard Camp in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Paul is a guard for the Houston Rockets.
The university said Roach would make a full recovery for the upcoming season. However, no official timetable for a return to activity has been established.
Roach’s surgery comes a day after UT announced women’s basketball freshman Sedona Prince underwent successful surgery to repair a lower right leg fracture sustained Friday in a U.S. 18-under team’s game at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico City. Prince, too, is expected to recovery fully, but no timetable for her return was set.
Texas’ men’s team begins the season at home against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 6 and will take on Arkansas at Fort Bliss in El Paso on Nov. 9. The Longhorn women will open at home against Duquesne on Nov. 8 and host North Texas on Nov. 12.
