Police have released the name of a man who died after being exposed to a chemical inside a tank at Tubal-Cain Marine Services on Friday.

The deceased is identified as Tyler Winfree, 21, of Bridge City.

Police were called around 1:34 p.m. to the facility at 8700 Old Ferry Road near the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge in reference to a man down, according to police.

Initial investigation indicates that an industrial accident occurred and as a result the man died.

Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Marc DeRouen said the victim had been exposed to ethylene dichloride. An autopsy has been ordered.

Besides Port Arthur police and fire departments, other agencies involved in the investigation include the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the state emergency management office and Jefferson County Emergency Management. Depending on the circumstances of the investigation, there could be other agencies included.

Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Marc DeRouen said the man was 21-years-old and his name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

DeRouen was called to the business, 8737 Old Yacht Club Road near the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge around 1:25 p.m., he said. The victim had been exposed to ethylene dichloride. An autopsy has been ordered.

Port Arthur Police Deputy Chief Martin “Bubba” Blitch said the initial call was for a man down and when they arrived they learned the incident was industrial in nature.
