Beaumont police investigate fatal hit-and-run; cyclist killed

Beaumont police early Sunday were investigating a hit-and-run that left a cyclist dead alongside Interstate 10.
In an issued statement, police said an officer entering I-10 from Pine Street at 1:16 a.m. saw debris in the roadway and stopped to investigate. There, the officer found a deceased white male who had apparently been riding his bicycle west on I-10. The victim was wearing a traffic vest, police said.
Initial investigation by a traffic unit team showed the victim had been struck from behind. The vehicle apparently continued west without stopping.
The victim was identified, police said, but his identify won’t be released until next of kin has been notified.
