WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Southland names Kinard player of week

FRISCO — Moe Kinard of the Lamar women’s basketball team has been named the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by MidSouth Bank, the league announced Monday.
The Cardinal guard picks up her first weekly honor of the season after averaging 30 minutes and a stellar 25.7 points per contest. Kinard exploded on the offensive end shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from the beyond the arc over the course of Lamar’s three games.
The LU senior set single-game records in points (58) and three-pointers made (13). Both marks also are single-game Southland Conference records as well. Her 13 made three-pointers is an NCAA single-game record. For her performance at the DU Classic, Kinard was named MVP.
She scored 58 points and hit 13 three-pointers against Denver, which serves as the NCAA’s highest single-game performances of the season and are her career-highs. She is the first player LU to score 50 points in a single contest. She has hit one three-pointer in each of her 12 games dating back to the end of the 2017-18 season.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
Kinard and the Cards return to action on Thursday when they travel to College Station, Texas to face Texas A&M. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m.
