SOCCER: Ocampo, Ashworth named Southland All-Academic

BEAUMONT — Lamar’s Juliana Ocampo and Lucy Ashworth were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic First Team. The SLC All-Academic honors were announced Thursday by the SLC office.

Last season, Ocampo earned Second-Team All-Academic honors. This is the first season Ashworth as earned All-Academic honors.

Ocampo is the sixth Cardinal to collected All-Academic honors in two different seasons.

Ocampo, who has a 3.66 GPA in exercise science, earned First Team All-Academic honors this season. Ocampo was named the Southland Conference Midfielder of the Year this season and was the first Cardinals player to earn this honor.

She was a four-year member of the LU women’s soccer team. This season she finished fourth on the team in scoring with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Her six goals were second most on the Cards and a career-high. In SLC action she scored three goals and tallied two assists.

Ashworth, who has a 3.50 GPA in nutrition, earned her first All-Academic honors of her career. This season, the sophomore earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a forward.

She was second on the Cards in scoring with 18 points on six goals and six assists. She had four goals and one assist in Southland play. She played and started all 20 games for Lamar this season.

A total of 16 different Cardinals have collected this honors since LU started its soccer program.
