Port Neches-Groves found its second 30-point scorer in a week’s span.
Maylin Stampley finished with a career-high 34 points, accounting for nearly half of PNG’s offense Friday in a 72-37 win at Cleveland. Stampley also had six rebounds.
PNG (17-10, 5-2 in 21-5A) outscored Cleveland 27-5 in the third quarter to lead 55-25. Mollee Priddy (15 points) and Holly Jones (seven) each had five steals for the visiting Indians, while Jones pulled down six rebounds and made four assists. Priddy scored 21 against Vidor last Friday.
Abby Lunceford stayed active defensively with six deflections and a steal to go with two points and four rebounds.
Believe it or not, PNG started out slowly on defense, coach Kara Skinner said.
Cleveland led 14-11 through one period.
PNG will visit Dayton on Tuesday.
BRIDGE CITY 62, WEST ORANGE-STARK 27
In Bridge City, the Cardinals (20-10, 4-3 in 22-4A) nearly finished with two double-doubles in blowing out their Orange County rivals.
Madison Fischer led the way with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Hannah Wiegreffe had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Cardinals, who will visit 12th-ranked Silsbee on Tuesday.

PNG 62, CLEVELAND 55
In Port Neches, Tracy Smith’s double-double and a 14-5 second quarter by the host Indians were key to a seven-point win over the visiting Indians, who got 36 points from Chance Davis.
The win broke a tie for fourth place and pulls PNG (15-10, 3-3 in 21-5A) within one game of third-place Nederland.
Smith totaled 21 points and 16 rebounds, Drake Rojas scored 16 and Trent Lee dropped 13 points for PNG, which is just one win away from securing its first winning season since 2015-16.
Cleveland fell to 15-9 and 2-4 in 21-5A.
PNG hosts Dayton on Tuesday.

PNG 7, BRIDGE CITY 1
In the Lumberton tournament, Jason Lovejoy earned the hat trick, and four other Indians scored Friday in a rout of Bridge City.
Johnathan Alvarenga, Kaden Lumpkin, Seth Aguilar and Mario Oceguera also netted a goal each for PNG, which takes on La Porte at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

PNG TIES GEORGETOWN, DROPS 2
Port Neches-Groves fought tournament host Georgetown to a scoreless tie before losing a pair of games in the Governor’s Cup.
Leander Rouse and Wylie East defeated PNG (5-3-3) by 1-0 scores.
“We are playing some tough teams and I feel like we will reap the rewards of a tough schedule once our district play begins,” PNG coach Aimee Bates said.
