Motiva Enterprises in Port Arthur will make two donations totaling almost a million dollars to bolster Port Arthur education, as the Greater Port Arthur area seeks to recover and rebuild from Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey.

The first donation will be made to the Port Arthur Independent School District and will pass through the Port Arthur Education Foundation.

• $50,000 for an extra campus vehicle

A presentation for the donation will be made at 3 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson Early College High School.

The second donation will take place at Lamar State College Port Arthur, although the purpose of that donation is less certain. That event will start at 4:15 p.m.

The mission of the Port Arthur Education Foundation is to “enhance academic excellence in Port Arthur public schools by supporting innovative educational projects.”

Motiva released a news media alert about the event Monday night.

Ed Haloulos, Motiva’s vice president for human resources, and Greg Lucchesi, general manager in Port Arthur, were to be on hand.

A Motiva spokeswoman said more specific details would be released at the event.

Several area energy companies have donated funds to the Port Arthur Education Foundation since Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey ravaged the region in August 2017, dropping up to 60 inches of rainfall on Greater Port Arthur and Mid County.
