Staff report
The Port Arthur City Council on Tuesday extended by a year the city’s contract with International Association of Fire Fighters Local No. 397, which represents 106 city firefighters.
The unanimous vote followed an executive, or closed-door session of the council members and came with little discussion.
Terms of the extension included a 2.5 percent raise, which is what city police officers were granted recently. The agreement is for the city’s Fiscal Year 2020.
Fire Chief Larry Richard said union members had voted to accept the offer, which extends a three-year pact.
The city’s contract with the firefighters was to end Sept. 30. The addition goes into effect Oct. 1 and continues through Sept. 30, 2020.
