Another strong back line helped Andrew Landry to a final round 71 and a tie for 47th Sunday in the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedre, Florida.

Landry, who got off to a shaky start with bogeys on his first two holes, shot 33 on the back nine to finish the tournament at three-under 285. It was an improvement over 2018 when he shot 287 and tied for 66th.

Rory McIlroy fashioned a final round 70 for 16-under-272 to hold off 48-year-old United States Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk by one shot for the championship.

Putting once again was somewhat of an issue for Landry. After needing 32 putts on Saturday he took 30 more on Sunday. His four birdies were all inside 11 feet — 7 feet, 5 inches on the par-4 fourth, 17 inches on the par-4 10th, 3-4 on the par-5 11th and 10-10 on the par-5 16th.

With his incoming 33 the Port Neches-Groves ex played the back nine 8 under for the week. He struggled on the front, playing it in 5 over.
