Coach Richard Charles “Dick” Williams, 83, of Port Arthur, TX passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas surrounded by family.
A lifelong resident of Port Arthur, TX, he was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
He was a 1955 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School.
He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Southern University and his Master’s Degree from McNeese State University.
Coach retired from Port Arthur ISD with forty-one years of service.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Williams; his mother, Isabell “Plute” Virgin; his father, Abner Williams, Sr., sisters, Emily Ruth Jenkins and Yvonne Terry; brother, Abner Williams, Jr. and nephew, Tommie Brady.
Coach is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Williams and Richelle Gipson; one granddaughter, Gabrielle Gipson all of Missouri City, TX; one brother, Edgar G. Williams; godson and nephew, Dr. Glenn Mitchell, Sr.; nephew, James Brady; nieces, Joann Brady, Johannah Williams, Monica Newcost and Romona Ledet; special friends, Verna Dennis and Reginald “Big Dog” Lewis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A wake will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Gabriel Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Procter Street, Port Arthur, TX.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2019 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 501 W. Thomas Blvd., Port Arthur, TX.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
