BOYS BASKETBALL PREVIEW: Sabine Pass team defined by hard work

The Sabine Pass Sharks finished their season with a 2A playoff loss to Broaddus, 72-36. That’s going to mean the Sharks need to improve on defense, rebounding and shooting, according to Chad Bryan.
Fortunately the second-year basketball coach has a team that’s plenty familiar with practice, as several players play several sports for the Sharks.
“The kids work really hard and give a lot back to the school,” Bryan said. “Most of my varsity team plays football, basketball, baseball and run track.”
Some of these players include senior guard Harold James (5-10) who also plays on the football team, and junior guard Grayson Johnson (5-8), also a football player. Bryan is also expecting more help from the rest of his bench as well.
He’s looking forward to playing a game against PNG on Nov. 25, especially since first year head coach Chris Smith is his brother.
2018-19 record: 11-18, 2-6 in 24-2A (fourth place)
Head coach: Chad Bryan, second year (11-18)
First game: At Bob Hope, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15
