15-year-old male killed when struck along U.S. 69

NEDERLAND — A 15-year-old Nederland resident is dead after being struck several times by vehicles while in the 2000 block of U.S. 69 southbound at approximately 7:16 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

Upon arrival on scene, Nederland Police Department officers found that two juvenile males were attempting to cross the section of highway when one male was struck by an S.U.V. and killed.

The victim was a 15-year-old resident of Nederland.

Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter said the driver of the vehicle was thought to have left the scene but returned to the scene voluntarily. The second juvenile male was unharmed and released to parents on scene.

The highway was temporarily shut down while officers and investigators could process the scene.

Porter said the family of the deceased has been notified.

The crash is under investigation. No charges have been filed as of this time.
