A trial date has been set for an 18-year-old Port Arthur woman who prosecutors believe lured a man to an apartment with the promise of sex, only for him to be fatally gunned down.

Jaqiera Janay Alpough is set for trial for the March 2018 murder of Kevonn Jeffrey Washington on Feb. 18 in the Criminal District Court, according to information from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Earlier this week James Earl Holloway, 20, of Port Arthur was sentenced to 25 years for the shooting death of Washington. Investigation showed the two men had an ongoing disagreement.

Police said Alpough lured the victim to the Lakeview Palms Apartments, 5200 Gulfway Drive, under the impression that he was going to engage in sexual acts with her.

Court documents said Alpough used Facebook Messenger to communicate with the victim.

He walked to the apartment complex and they met at the park in the front of the complex, which was agreed to in their messages.

Police said she then led him to a vacant apartment by one of the buildings. She didn’t have keys to the apartment but reportedly used that as a stall tactic, appearing to unlock the door with a key while Holloway was lying in wait.

Holloway approached Washington and shot him. Then when the victim fell, Holloway stood over and shot him multiple times, killing him.

A second female was on the scene and accompanied Alpough. She witnessed the shooting.

Alpough told the unnamed female that Holloway threatened to shoot them if they yelled. This female was not listed in the court documents.

Alpough was indicted for the murder by a Jefferson County grand jury in January 2019.

An indictment is not a final conviction of guilt; it is only a ruling by the grand jury that allows the district attorney’s office to proceed with a criminal case.
