Lamar State College Port Arthur and Orange will conduct Summer I semesters exclusively online as a precaution against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The colleges’ Summer I semesters run from June 1 to July 6 and include technical and general education studies.
Administrators decided to move Spring face-to-face classes to online instruction in late March and both are completing the semester in that online modality.
“It only makes sense to be diligent in protecting our students, faculty and staff from the coronavirus the best we can,” LSCPA President Dr. Betty Reynard said regarding the Summer I decision.
LSCO President Dr. Thomas Johnson said everyone has been remarkably cooperative during the Spring semester in keeping everything moving forward.
“We will award degrees and certificates on time thanks to the hard work and dedication of our employees and our students,” Johnson said.
Executive committees for each campus will continue to monitor the coronavirus pandemic to determine the best path to take for additional summer semesters and the upcoming Fall semester.
