Oscar Ortiz isn’t through with politics.

Ortiz, the current mayor of the city of Port Arthur is nearing the end of his term limit as city leader and has filed for a spot on the Port of Port Arthur Board of Commissioners.

The Port Arthur native wants to continue working on projects that will benefit the city and the Port of Port Arthur.

There are now four people vying for three spots on the board of commissioners; incumbents W.C. Jones, Reginald Sutton and Morris Albright.

Ortiz graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School before moving to Wisconsin for 25 years, where he served in the U.S. Air Force. He returned in 1982.

He and his wife, Carol, own and operate Tuxedo Junction in Central Mall and have been business owners for 25 years. He is a certified journeyman carpenter and worked for seven years as a police officer in Wisconsin.

Ortiz currently works as a business consultant.

The couple have three children.
