At approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, there was a crash on CR 1114 at the intersection of CR 1115 in Newton County.  The crash occurred about 10 miles northwest of Brookeland, Texas and involved an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV).

A 2009 Polaris Ranger (ATV) was traveling on CR 1114 at the intersection of CR 1115 in Newton County.  The driver lost control and the ATV flipped over.  She was ejected and sustained fatal head injuries, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The driver of the ATV, Stevie Ray Hergert (16) of Nederland, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Brenda Smith.

This crash is still under investigation and there are no further details to be released at this time.
