Police: Suspects deliver stolen goods

Staff report

A Beaumont burglary suspect arrived on stolen bicycle to sell a stolen computer.

Detectives were waiting.

That’s what Beaumont police said in an issued statement Thursday.

Police said the victim called them Wednesday to say her computer, taken in a residential burglary early in March, was being offered for sale on Facebook.

Police intervened quickly enough to “intercept the purchase,” they said in their news release, and arrest Deandre Phifer, 20, of Jasper and his girlfriend, Demarriya Tims, 20, of Weirgate. Phifer was holding the computer — it’s true ownership was confirmed by a serial number, police said — and sitting on a bicycle taken during the same burglary.

Phifer and Tims had outstanding warrants in Jasper for theft and were arrested.

Further investigation led to the search of a residence in the 8000 block of Gladys, where additional stolen items were recovered. Detectives were also able to identify two additional suspects in the burglary and charges were pending against them, police said.

Phifer and Tims were transported to the Jefferson County Jail and booked for burglary of habitation, as well as their Jasper warrants.

Detectives say the group may be responsible for multiple burglaries of homes and vehicles.

Phifer was held Thursday with no bond set; Tims was held with no bond set on two charges and a bond of $226 for driving with an expired license plate.
