Roadside stands help with Valentine’s gift selection

Roadside stands selling Valentine’s Day baskets, gifts and stuffed animals were plentiful as last minute shoppers scooped up the festive treats on Saturday.

Clyde Dixon made a stop at Chrissy Pelatan’s stand in the 2700 block of Memorial Boulevard looking for something special for his fiancé. Dixon browsed the numerous baskets put together by Pelatan with some help from Pelatan’s friend Brittany Shields.

Randy Prince, who is friends with Pelatan, didn’t wait for the last minute to shop.

“I pre-ordered my basket,” Prince said, adding the items in the basket are things his wife likes.

Many of the baskets include quality cosmetic products and Shields was on hand to assist customers with various scents and fragrances.

A section of Twin City Highway in Jefferson City Shopping Center held another busy section of merchants hawking Cupid’s day gifts.

Emma Guidry and Vera Ceaser had a table filled with various small baskets and other items as well as larger baskets and stuff animals inside the back of their vehicle in the 3500 block of Twin City Highway. The good friends said they are Mary Kay Independent Consultants and their gifts also included items for men and teens as well.

“We have baskets of samples you can spray the scents and see what you like,” Ceaser said.

The women, who have had the stand for two years, also sell baskets for Mother’s Day and Christmas.

In addition, they “adopt-a-mother” for Mother’s Day and assemble items such as hand creams and body wash for women who have suffered domestic abuse and are in shelters so that they may also have something special on Mother’s Day.
