Local family to appear on Steve Harvey Show; recounts dramatic rescue from burning boat

A local family who were rescued from a burning boat in Galveston in September will give a surprise thank you to their rescuers on the Steve Harvey Show on Tuesday.

Steve Harvey will meet with Brittany Blackmon, 22, of Groves, Leslie Prince Jr., 26 of Port Neches and their 6-year-old son Jarid to tell their story of a fishing expedition that turned into a nightmare when their boat caught fire and they had to jump overboard near the south jetty off Galveston this past September, according to a press release from the Steve Harvey Show.

Two captains running chartered fishing expeditions in the area ended up saving the family’s life and rescuing them from the water and taking them in on their own boats. The two captains, Capt. Michael Losoya, 25, of Hitcock, and Capt. Michael Marquez, 20, of Galveston, will join Steve to recount the rescue story but have no idea they will receive a surprise from the family.

Locally, the Steve Harvey Show can be seen on FOX 4 KBTV weekdays at 4 p.m.
