Fake gun on campus prompts brief lockdown at Nederland High School
NEDERLAND — Nederland High School was on a brief lockdown after a student brought a plastic toy gun onto school premises Tuesday morning.
The lockdown occurred around 9 a.m.
A news release sent by Nederland Independent School District said the situation was swiftly addressed, and the student involved was removed from the school.
“It is important to note that there is no ongoing threat to the safety of students or staff,” the statement read. “The school administration is handling the matter in accordance with established protocols to ensure the continued safety and security of the school community. This message is intended purely for informational purposes to keep parents and guardians informed.”
Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter said the incident involved a 15-year-old student who brought a lighter that looked like a gun to the school. The incident was reported and precautions were taken.
Porter said the student would likely face disciplinary action.
