Port Arthur denies viral immigration policy is current policy

The City of Port Arthur has released a statement on its immigration policy after a fake post online went viral stating that the Port Arthur Police Department would not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The official statement from the city reads it “has adopted no policy, or position, which conflicts with, or is unsupportive of, current immigration policy”.

The topic of immigration policy comes as newly elected President Donald Trump’s announced plans for mass deportations.

“The plan is to follow all the directives and the laws issued by the president,” said Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso.

Duriso said the viral post was a past policy from a different police chief. Duriso reiterated that his current police department is currently following all laws and local ordinances when it comes to immigration.

The post was shared around Facebook and other social media platforms over the weekend was believed to have originated from an independent news organization as a leaked document from 2017.

The issues similar to events that happened in 2017 during the first Trump presidency. At that time former Port Arthur Mayor Derrick Freeman stated that Port Arthur is not a sanctuary city.
