Travis Williams leaves Titans hoops program

Travis Williams has resigned as boys basketball coach of the Port Arthur Memorial Titans.
Memorial Athletic Director Andre Boutte on Monday morning confirmed Williams’ resignation.
Williams came to Memorial in 2011 after a very successful career in Silsbee where he took the Tigers to two state tournaments. His career record sits at 300-95. He was 90-41 in his four seasons with the Titans and his teams reached the playoffs all four years.
Williams took over for Terrul Henderson at Memorial and won his 300th career game in the bi-district round in 2015 with a 55-46 victory over South Houston. The Titans were eliminated in the next round by the eventual state runner-up, Clear Lake.
Williams was suspended for a game in late January after an incident with a player. It took place during a victory against Beaumont West Brook and a witness told The News Williams grabbed a Titans player who was on the court and moved him forcibly off the court.
Williams is not alone in leaving the Titans hoops program, according to Bridge City Athletic Director Richard Briggs.
Briggs confirmed Lance Robertson was expected to be hired on Monday as an assistant football and basketball coach at Bridge City High School.
Robertson served as the assistant basketball coach under Williams and had head coaching duties during Williams’ suspension.
