BPD: Witnesses laughed, refused to cooperate at murder scene

Staff report

BEAUMONT — Witnesses to the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Reginald Royce Coleman reportedly laughed and were uncooperative with investigators Monday night, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

Police were called to the 2800 block of Gulf Street around 10:30 p.m. in reference to several gunshots. While there they found Beaumont resident Reginald Royce Coleman on the ground near the Sterling Pruitt pool building. He had suffered several gunshot wounds, according to information from BPD. This marked the fourth homicide in Beaumont this year.

Police said he was “still in possession of his money and drugs” and didn’t appear to have been robbed. Detectives tried to interview numerous people in the area and witnesses were laughing and refused to cooperate.

Coleman was a person of interest in several recent aggravated robberies in the area, police said.

If you have any information about this homicide, contact Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS or download the P3 Tips app and use your smartphone to submit your tip. All tips are anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
