SUV flips after tire blow-out, five injured

Two adults and three children were injured when a tire on their SUV blew-out causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and flip several times Monday night.

The accident occurred in the 6700 block of Memorial Boulevard northbound at about 5:55 p.m. Aug. 17.

According to officers, the 2003 Ford Expedition was northbound on the highway when the driver’s side tire blew out causing the SUV to leave the roadway. The vehicle went airborne then rolled several times until it came to rest in the northbound access road. Indications are that all five passengers were ejected from the vehicle.

There were two adults and three children in the vehicle. One child was sent by air rescue to Houston and one child was sent by air rescue to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. The other three occupants were transported to St. Elizabeth by ambulance.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, Port Arthur Police Department’s Advanced Accident Reconstruction Team was summoned.

The case remains under investigation.
