Groves city offices to close for holiday
GROVES — All Groves city offices will be closed Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
There will be no garbage or trash pick-up on this day. Pick-up will resume Wednesday.
Game day in the park for Groves Summer Reading Club
GROVES — Children participating in the Groves Summer Reading Club will celebrate Game Day In The Park from 10 to 11 a.m. July 5 at the library, 5600 W. Washington St. Children should bring a sack lunch, drinks will be provided.

Texas Pecan Festival pageant registration ongoing
GROVES — Registration for the 2006 Texas Pecan Festival Scholarship pageant will continue through noon July 21 at the chamber office, 4399 Main Ave. Contestants must be residents of Groves. Candidates must be 3 years old by Sept. 1 through senior in high school.
Churches, schools to showcase talent
GROVES — Churches and schools have found First Friday in Groves a convenient venue to increase their visibility and showcase their talent, and First Friday sponsors consider the family-oriented fare a perfect complement for their focus. The July 7 First Friday in Groves will highlight the activities and special talents of two local churches.
Agape Christian Fellowship Praise Band will present a two-hour concert in Celebration Park as part of the First Friday’s Sweet Sounds of Summer concert series. The concert of contemporary Christian music will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the park, located at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Coolidge Boulevard. Some benches are provided in the park, but lawn chairs are also encouraged. Agape Christian Fellowship has been a sponsor of First Friday for two years.
