PORT NECHES — The Port Neches-Groves ran its season record to 4-0 with a pair of one-side victories Friday in the PN-G Indian Classic, but win No. 5 won’t come.
Ozen, which improved to 2-0 with a 92-37 romp over Houston Prep, furnishes the opposition for the Indians in the 1 p.m. final game of the round robin even.
PN-G’s Friday victories were 66-43 over Houston Prep and 57-40 over Kelly.
Mitch Todd and Ryan Miller poured in 19 points each to pace the victory over Houston Prep, while Travis Thompson led the way past Kelly with 16 points. Todd added 13, Travis Weatherbee 11 and Miller chipped in with 10.
PN-G was never threatened in the game against Houston Prep, leading 14-9 after one quarter and 34-13 at the half. The Indians, though, had to come from behind against Kelly and didn’t really pull away until the final quarter.
Kelly was on top 15-12 after one period, the Indians pulled ahead 24-22 at halftime and led 39-31 after three quarters.
It was the second loss of the day for Kelly, which fell to Richard Milburn, 56-33 in an earlier game.
Ozen, meanwhile, barely broke a sweat against Houston Prep, leading 32-12 after the first eight minutes and 56-21 at halftime. Steven Moten topped the Panthers with 19 points and Decarlos Frank had 15.
Ozen plays two games on Saturday, facing Kelly at 9 a.m., then coming back against PN-G at 1 p.m. Houston Prep plays Richard Milburn at 11 a.m.
