Felon arrested for possession of firearm; crack cocaine

GROVES — An officer with the Groves Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 2000 block of Vincent Dr. at 12:47 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4.
The officer attempted to take the suspect into custody on warrants when the suspect broke free and ran. Officers chased the subject into the Gulf Breeze Apartment complex where he was apprehended. The suspect resisted and it took three officers to subdue the suspect before he was placed into custody.
Upon searching the suspect’s vehicle, officers located a firearm, crack cocaine and prescription medication. The medication was still in the manufacturer’s bottles and is believed to have been stolen.
The 23-year-old Port Arthur resident was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
