The Nederland Bulldogs clinched their third straight District 20-4A baseball title with a 7-1 victory over Beaumont Ozen Friday at Metreyeon Delahoussaye Field.

Dillon Duplant stayed undefeated for the Bulldogs, picking up his ninth victory of the season. Trevin Sonnier led Nederland at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a triple while Stephen Schlett was 2 for 3 and Tyler Smith was 2 for 4.

Nederland holds a three-game lead over second-place Little Cypress-Mauriceville with one game left to play in the regular season.

University Interscholastic League rules forced the Nederlanders to move their game from Thursday to Friday, since a team cannot play a third game in one week unless they were playing on the final school day of that week. Nederland ISD held classes Friday, necessitating the move for the baseball team.

A crowded situation at the bottom of District 19-4A means that the Bulldogs will have to wait for their Class 4A bidistrict opponent.

Nederland would meet the fourth-place team from 19-4A in the bidistrict round. Goose Creek Memorial has clinched the league title at 11-1 with Barbers Hill, Baytown Lee and Crosby at 8-4 with two remaining regular-season games.

Nederland will close out the 2011 regular season at LC-M at 7 p.m. Friday.
