Summer reading kick-off registration event set for Saturday
The Port Arthur Public Library will kick off its summer reading program, “Every Hero Has a Story,” Saturday with motivational speaker Julian Franklin, puppets, magic and exploring what it means to “do the right thing.”
Carolyn Thibodeaux, Port Arthur Public Library children’s and young adult librarian, said the library has invited VIPs like Port Arthur Independent School District Superintendent Mark Porterie, and “other heroes without capes,” to kick off the biggest registration event of the summer.
“Julian Franklin is a motivational speaker from Houston, and he’ll be performing magic tricks for the kids while he (inspires) them,” Thibodeaux said Friday. “We’ll have face painting, reading scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and other activities.”
The kick-off registration event is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, as a precursor to the next two months of events Thibodeaux has scheduled throughout Port Arthur.
Registration will continue Sunday through June 13, with summer reading program events starting June 8.
The Port Arthur Public Library is located at 4615 Ninth Ave.
