Donald “Donnie” James Broussard, 73, of Port Arthur passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Donnie was born September 30, 1942 in Port Acres, Texas to the late Bernice Trahan and Joseph C. Broussard. Donnie was a native of Port Acres and was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School where he excelled in football and academics. Donnie was self-employed and owner of Broussard Enterprises, an airboat rental company. Donnie lived his life hunting and fishing along the bayous and marshes of Southeast Texas. Donnie is widely known as being the most talented duck hunter that ever lived. His passion for the outdoors never went away, even when Donnie took his last breath. Donnie is also known for his vast knowledge of Alligator hunting and is one of the original pioneers that started the industry in Texas, that has now become so popular as featured in the show “Swamp People”. Donnie’s great passion was being a 55 year member of “Port Acres Sportsman’s Club”, a unique hunting and fishing club that is located in Southeast Texas. Donnie lived a full life and didn’t leave anything in the tank he fought a long battle with illnesses before the Lord called him home.
Donnie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Connie S. Broussard of Port Acres; son, Troy J. Broussard and wife Dana of Beaumont and sister, Barbara Ann Dorman of Port Acres. Donnie also leaves behind grandchildren, Mallory Sue Broussard of Beaumont, Donovan Henderson of Nederland, and Conner Henderson of Navarre, Fl. to cherish his memories.
The Broussard family would like to give a “Special Thank You” to Dr. Rao, Dr. Clement, Dinah Barriere, Regina, Riceland Hospice and their staff and to Father Rejimon George of Little Flower Jesus Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, October 23, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Broussard will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
