Lamar State College-Port Arthur continues to look for its first road conference win of the season after falling to Trinity Valley Community College 102-98 in overtime on Wednesday night in Athens.
The Seahawks, who fall to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in NJCAA Region 14 play, had three players scoring more than 20 points and took the Cardinals, ranked No. 2 in the nation, to the wire. But the Cardinals showed why they are one of the top-ranked teams in the country in the final seconds of regulation. With the Seahawks leading by three with 2.2 seconds left, TVCC hit a long ball to tie the game. In overtime, the Hawks managed just two points as Trinity Valley hit its free throws down the stretch to claim its 13th straight win. The Cardinals are now 16-1 and 5-0.
The Seahawks were led by sophomore guard Jordon Harris, who had 27 points, hitting six 3-pointers. Nederland sophomore Colton Weisbrod scored 25 points, while sophomore Mambi Diawara scored 24 points with seven rebounds. Christian Albright added 12 points for the Hawks, while sophomore teammate Freddie Williams Jr. chipped in 10 points.
The Seahawks return home Saturday for a non-conference game against Southern University-Shreveport. Tip off at the Carl Parker Center is 2 p.m.
