Mrs. Telen Lee (Stevens) Haley

Mrs. Telen Lee (Stevens) Haley was born on March 8, 1928 in Washington, Louisiana to the union of Lorena Rose Stevens and McKinley Stevens who both preceded her in death. She was the last of five siblings to survive. Mrs. Haley went to her eternal resting place January 17, 2016 at the Medical Center in Port Arthur, Texas.
Mrs. Telen Lee (Stevens) Haley was baptized in Washington, Louisiana at a young age. After her baptism she attended bible school and choir rehearsal every Saturday. Thus began the focus of her Christian life where she served in all capacities of the church.
Sis. Haley, a very ambitious Christian, furthered her education and became a teacher. She often visited her aunt in Port Arthur, TX where she met her life partner Mr. Eugene Haley. Indeed, this marriage of 70 years was joined by God.
She served in several capacities and traveled extensively locally, statewide and nationally in all areas of missionary work on all levels of ministries. She also was a very talented soloist, seamstress who coordinated weddings, social and civic organization attire.
Her hobbies included gardening, reading, teaching in church ministries and spending quality time with various organizations such as the Unique Ladies, Texaco Retirees, Flower Club, The Top Ladies of Distinction and Order of Eastern Star. She was affectionately known in the neighborhood, church and community as an ideal mother. Along with several other accomplishments and achievements she was also honored as Woman of the Year.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Eugene Haley, 4 sisters and 1 brother. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Ann Marie Haley; 3 sons, Kenneth Wayne Haley (Rachel), Dwayne Keith Haley (Venita), and the Rev. Ransom Eugene Howard, Sr. (Rhonda), 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Homegoing service is scheduled for 1 pm Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Rock Island Baptist Church, 549 West 11th Street, Port Arthur, TX with a viewing from 11 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
