Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Guidry

Published 4:53 pm Monday, February 1, 2016

Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Guidry went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 31, 2016.  She will rejoice to again join family and many friends who have gone on before.  At her passing, she resided at Optimum Personal Care in Missouri City, TX, where her daughter was with her as she left this life.
Maggie was born November 29, 1922, to LaCroix Trosclair and Blanche Bourgeois in Port Arthur, Texas.  During the Great Depression, her family moved for a while to Lake Arthur, LA and then returned to Port Arthur, TX.  Maggie attended school in both Lake Arthur and Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, TX.
In 1947, she was married to Albert John Guidry of Port Arthur, who had returned from heavy combat in the South Pacific with two Purple Hearts, earned as part of amphibious landings on Peleliu and Okinawa.  Maggie worked at the The Gulf in Port Arthur as a PBX Operator in the early years of their marriage, but later worked as a mother, when they were blessed with the birth of daughter, Eva Gwen and son, Christopher Gerard.  Albert continued with a 35 year career at the The Gulf.
For many decades, she was a devout and devoted parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Following the death of her husband and the destruction by Hurricane Rita, she moved to the Houston area, where she lived out the remainder of her life near her children, Eva and Chris.
She will always be remembered for her wonderful cooking and her family and friends always looked forward to enjoying her Sunday pot roast and her holiday baking and feasts.  She made many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, La Croix and Blanche; husband, Albert; sister, Billie Gentil; brothers, Calvin and Harold, her son, Christopher and her only grandson, Cameron Michael.  The loss of her son Chris and beloved grandson, Cameron, weighed heavily on her heart in her last years.
She is survived by her daughter, Eva Guidry Donalson of Sugar Land.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, February 2, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland.  A Graveside Service will be Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
