Groves Police: Donation bucket thief offers to pay back money

GROVES — A 30-year-old man caught on surveillance video stealing a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital donation bucket from Groves Dominos plans to speak with police about the crime.

Groves City Marshal Norman Reynolds Jr. said a man called and made a statement about the theft, offering to pay restitution and visit with police on Friday.

“The reason he called, all the comments on Facebook,” Reynolds said.

The theft occurred around 12:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at Dominos, 4010 Main Ave. The suspect reportedly walked into the eatery while speaking on his cell phone. He grabbed the container,, which contained about $20 at that time of day, and left in a dark gray Chevrolet sedan, he said.

The crime is a third degree misdemeanor.
