Memorial grad Kennerson scores 24 in Texas Southern defeat

HOUSTON — Recent Port Arthur Memorial graduate Joyce Kennerson scored a season-high 24 points Monday, but her Texas Southern women’s basketball team suffered a 58-48 home loss to Alabama State.

The loss narrowed Texas Southern’s lead in SWAC standings to one game with two games remaining, Thursday at Southern and Saturday at Alcorn State. The Tigers are 17-9 and 13-3 in the SWAC, one game ahead of Southern.

Kennerson shot 5 for 11 from the floor, 3 for 6 from three-point range, and made 11 of 17 free throws. She is averaging 9 points for the season.
