Sidney “Gary” Hawkins

Sidney “Gary” Hawkins, 71, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview following a brief illness.
He is survived by his daughter Stacey Brownlee and her husband Kevin, of Longview, three grandchildren Colton, Beaux and Sloane Brownlee also of Longview; his three brothers Leonard Hawkins and his wife Marilyn of Nederland, Ronald Hawkins and his wife Karen of Port Neches and Darwin Hawkins of Port Arthur, one sister, Ivalyn Anderson also of Port Arthur and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Born in Gilmer Texas, the son of the late S.G. and Fayrine (Shaw) Hawkins, he was a longtime resident of the Nederland/Port Arthur area.
Mr. Hawkins served as a police officer for the cities of Port Arthur, Beaumont and Port Neches in the late 60’s and 70’s. He was a man of many talents, truck driver, electrician, carpenter and mechanic. If it broke, he could fix it and never said no to anyone that needed anything he could give or do. He had a passion for horse racing and loved to spend time at the track watching the ponies run.
The family will gather to celebrate his life on March 19th in Nederland and wishes to offer special thanks to the many doctors and nurses at Good Shepherd Medical Center who took such good care of him during his time with them.
