Students at Taft Elementary School banded together to flood victims in Deweyville and the Human Society that suffered a devastating fire.
Parents were notified of the Taft Gives Back drive through messages and social media. The messages began during spring break, Candace Simmons, second grade teacher at Taft who spearheaded the drive, said.
Parents were asked to send different items each day of the week such as paper goods, cleaning products and canned goods.
The school also collected Box Tops for Deweyville Elementary to help them purchase new school supplies. Box Tops are worth 10 cents each and the school collected $300 worth in a four-day span.
Taft also held a coin drive for the Humane Society of Southeast Texas and collected approximately $290 in four days.
