On Saturday April 2, 2016 at 1:09 p.m. the Old Ship of Zion pulled into port at Shirley Street and picked up passenger Dorothy Mae “Dear” Buckner. Her ticket was stamped “Paid in Full” and her destination was typed “ In-bound for the Promised Land, Heaven.” Her family members were there to bid her farewell until we meet again on that beautiful shore.
Dorothy met Hamilton Buckner, the love of her life, and they were married December 10,1950. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, December 2015. From this union, seven (7) children were embraced and reared with unlimited love, encouragement, guidance, discipline and in the admonition of the Lord. They are Cleveland, Donald Ray, Sr. Yvonne, Sedonia “Puttin,” Hamilton, Jr. (deceased), Carolyn and Jacovin. In their 65 years of marriage, Dear and Hamilton (affectionately known as Daddy –Lut) never spent one day apart out of anger or because of a disagreement. That’s love!!!
Left with precious memories are her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Hamilton; sons, Pastor Cleveland Richard (Annie); Donald Buckner, Sr. (Linda) Jacovin Buckner; daughters, Rev. Yvonne Buckner Howard, Sedonia “Puttin” Buckner Deans, and Carolyn Moore.
Dear is leaving a legacy of kindness, generosity, caring, and that of a strong Christian woman. The profound indelible footprints of her love will remain in the hearts and lives of many.
