Titan relay teams perfect

HOUSTON — The Port Arthur Memorial Titans track team went a perfect 6 for 6 in getting its relay squads to the 6A Region III area meet next week.
The Titans won all three relays Thursday at the District 21-6A meet held at North Shore Ninth Grade Campus.
Memorial’s biggest win came last in the 4×400 meter relay.
The Titans got off to a great start with senior Kameron Martin blistering the track for a time of 47 seconds in his leg of the run. Memorial won the event with a finish of 3:16.26. Michael Ford ran second and handed to Terrance Pitre before Jaquan Francois finished off the race.
North Shore, which was second with a time of 3:22.35, won the team title with 195 points. West Brook was second at 175.5 and Memorial was third with 135 points.
Memorial coach Darrell Granger said it was the first race of the day that set the tone for the Titans. They won the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 41.25. Memorial ran DeAndre Angelle, Kary Vincent Jr., Martin and Ford.
“That race gets us off to a quick start,” Granger said. “I felt good about the day we had. The district meet always is the start to where we want to end up and that is in Austin.”
Memorial’s 4×200 meter relay team of Martin, Quantae Connor, Vincent and Angelle won its race with a time of 1:25.6. North Shore was second at 1:26.2.
Vincent was a triple winner as he also took gold in the 200-meter dash. Vincent, who trailed behind West Brook’s Jeffery Hulon Jr. for most of the race, blasted through the final 50 meters and won with a time of 21.38. Hulon finished in second at 21.46.
The Memorial girls finished second in their 4×100 meter relay. The team of Aniya Duhon, Kierra Baker, Ayala Stevens and Chakaylin Gilbert finished in 48.53. North Shore won at 48.23.
Memorial’s 4×200 relay team of Duhon , Jamiya Dixon, Stevens and Gilbert was second with a time of 1:43.98. North Shore was first at 1:41.78.
Duhon, Millicent Neveu, Ny’Reonna Smith and Kelsie McClendon finished second in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 4:01.85. North Shore won gold with a time of 3:56.17.
North Shore won the girls team title with 201 points. Memorial finished in third with 92 points.
Francois won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.84. Bryan Moore was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.19.
Stevens finished third in the 100-meter dash at 12.64. McClendon was fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.68. Ford finished second in the 400 at 49.35 and Pitre was fourth at 50.37.
Butler and Moore both advanced to the area meet in the 300-meter hurdles.
