Port Arthur Memorial defensive back Kary Vincent Jr. knows at some point the time will come for him to make his college intentions known.

Vincent just isn’t sure when that time will be.

The high school junior holds 23 college offers according to espn.com and was recently ranked as the No. 25 prospect in the country in the ESPN 300.

“That is very humbling,” Vincent said. “I can only thank God and keep working. I have gone from 222 in the nation to No. 25. That is a big jump. Those who know me and see the work I put in, they weren’t surprised. You can expect even more from me because I am going to continue to keep working to get even better.”

It isn’t hard to imagine things getting much better for Vincent, who finished with three interceptions a year ago for the Titans.

He was a first team District 21-6A selection and a member of the 2015 Port Arthur News Super Team.

Vincent has recently stayed busy on the Titans’ track team. He will compete at the Class 6A Track and Field Championships as a member of the 4×100 meter relay team and in the 200-meter dash. He won the 200 at the 6A Region III meet with a time of 21.15 seconds.

The recruiting process is also a grind. Vincent stays in contact with many coaches from around the country who are itching to have a commitment from the guy who is listed as the fourth-best recruit in Texas.

“It is a wild ride,” Vincent said. “I wouldn’t call it crazy as much as it is fun and adventurous. It is a new thing for me and I am adapting to it. I really am enjoying the process.”

Vincent’s Memorial teammate and friend Kameron Martin has been a big help for the junior. It was this time last year when Martin was the one who was the hot recruit out of Memorial before he signed with Baylor. The year before that, Martin was learning the process from former Memorial running back Corey Dauphine, who landed in Lubbock with Texas Tech.

“I have learned so much and I am still learning,” Vincent said. “Kam is such a great leader, mentor and big brother to me. He schools me and helps me with anything that he possibly can.”

So the big questions for Vincent are obvious: When will he announce his college of choice and what are his top choices?

“I don’t have a date yet,” Vincent said. “I have taken a few visits during the spring and over the winter and I will take more this summer. I definitely can say when I know it is the right place, I feel like home and I am comfortable with the staff and where the program is headed, then it will be done. I won’t hold on past when I know.

“I can’t say who my top five are right now. When I am ready to let everyone know, I will be sure to let the news out.”

Vincent is training for two things right now: Bringing home two gold medals in track on May 14 and doing something in football he is yet to achieve.

“I am working to get my team to the playoffs,” Vincent added. “It has been two hard seasons going 3-7. I have yet to be in the playoffs since I have been on varsity. That is my goal. I want to do what I can on either side of the ball and both on and off the field to help my team get into the playoffs.”

Memorial drops down from 6A to 5A at the start of the 2016-17 school year.
