Stefani tied for lead in Memphis

Three strokes separated the leaders from 18th place Thursday after the first round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

Lamar alumnus Shawn Stefani is among the leaders, shooting a 5-under 65. The native of Baytown is tied with American Tom Hoge and South Korean Seung-Yul Noh.

Six players share second. Among golfers with local ties, Lamar graduate Dawie van der Walt and Groves native Andrew Landry are tied for 40th at even-par 70 at TPC Southwind.

Stefani finished the front nine at 3-under after shooting an eagle on the par-4 ninth.
