Stefani hangs on in sixth

Shawn Stefani shot one over par Friday after a hot 65 in the first round, but he didn’t tumble too far in the leaderboard of the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

Stefani, a former Lamar standout from Baytown, is at 4-over 136 through two rounds, placing him in an eight-way tie for sixth place. Daniel Berger turned in a 64 to move into the lead at 9-under 131, three strokes ahead of Tom Hoge.

Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson are tied for third at 5-under. Koepka and Mickelson shot 65 each.

Ken Duke, Russell Henley, Wesley Bryan, Cameron Percy, Brian Gay, Will MacKenzie and Hudson Swafford are tied with Stefani. All golfers in the top 14 except Australian Percy are American.
