The Port Arthur Independent School District approved a “Turn-A-Round Plan” for the next two school years. This plan sets readiness expectations for students and builds on the positive changes being made by Superintendent Mark Porterie. The plan will help ensure Port Arthur’s students stay ahead of the state’s standards, which is something we can all support …

Planning for the future is critical, and that’s why the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce’s proposed transportation projects are worth considering. The chamber plans to bring 15 proposals to city leaders in the near future, and it will be interesting to see how the business and elected officials work together to address these needs …
Thousands of residents across Mid- and South Jefferson County celebrated our nation’s independence on Monday. It was good to see everyone enjoying some much-needed celebration time together at Doornbos Park and Lamar State in Port Arthur. The music filled the air, picnics abounded and once again the fireworks spectaculars did not disappoint. Necks arched back, lots of ooh’s and aah’s, and plenty of laughter and applause proved it was indeed a great night …
Confused about the talk of restructuring the Port Arthur City Council? It’s understandable. But with the momentum of our recent election still hanging in the air, and a local group petitioning to eliminate two city-wide council seats, it’s critical that all voters in Port Arthur take the time to understand the issue and what is at stake. Kudos to Alexandra Easley, Ashley Demas, Destiny Sharp, Kari Robbins and Tia Richards who each became certified to assist others prior, during and after childbirth…
With local temperatures rising and the heat index pushing into triple digits, please be sure to take plenty of water with you when venturing out. And, if at all possible, stay in and stay cool.
