She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Class of 1975. After graduating high school, she studied nursing at Lamar University, before moving to the Houston area. She was a resident of Alvin for over 30 years. Sheri worked as a Practice Administrator for many years managing practices in the Orthopedic, Cardiology, and Neurology Specialties. At the same time, she also worked in the ER at Memorial Hermann Southeast. She then went back to school to earn her Associates Degree in Process Operations at Alvin Community College, completed EMT training, and ultimately became a Paramedic. She worked as an Operator, Paramedic, and was a member of the Emergency Response Team at Ineos Chocolate Bayou for 15 years. When she was not working, she enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren and beloved canine companions; all of which brought her the greatest joys in life.
Volunteer work was a consistent theme throughout Sheri’s life and something she always enjoyed. She was a volunteer for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo on the Donkey and Mule Committee. She was also a volunteer for His Grace Foundation at Texas Children’s Hospital on the Bone Marrow Transplant unit. After she retired, Sheri was sworn in as a child advocate for the organization CASA of Brazoria county to help be a voice for abused and neglected children in the courts. She helped to ensure they got the proper treatment and were ultimately placed in a safe and loving homes. In 2015, she helped the people of Wimberley and Hays County that were impacted by the Blanco River flood. Sheri always cared more for others than herself. She was generous and thoughtful to everyone in her life. She was a great caregiver to everyone she came in contact with, including the homeless people in Alvin. Always honest and true. Always humble and kind. She took pride in helping serve her community and being there for her co-workers and neighbors.
Sheri enjoyed traveling both in and out of the state of Texas. She would frequently take day trips to Crystal Beach and Galveston to look for shark teeth and beach glass. Sheri loved the Texas Hill Country, from floating the Frio River to watching deer along the Blanco River in Wimberley. She appreciated visiting wineries in northern California, Fredericksburg, and even the Haak winery in Santa Fe. In addition to traveling, Sheri also delighted in cooking for family, friends, and co-workers. Her Thanksgiving dressing, pork chops and rice, and meatloaf were some of her family’s favorites. She always appreciated the simple little things life offered that other people would often overlook, like listening to her wind chimes on her back porch.
