No excuse for boredom this weekend

It’s a busy weekend, folks!
While some weekends you can’t help but drive to Houston or Lake Charles, this week we have all the fun right at home.
And guess what? Most the fun is for a good cause, so you can’t have enough fun over the next two days.
Saturday, wake up and get some gumbo at the annual Taste of Gumbo event. The Rotary Club hosts the event at the civic center, and it combines a taste everyone loves with crafts, prizes, an auction and, this year, drone fun for the kids. The best part is, the $10 ticket goes all to charity, so it’s money well spent—and all the gumbo you can eat.
But don’t overdo it early because later that night it’s Pardi Gras, another annual favorite and also a charitable fundraiser.
This one’s across the county in Beaumont at the civic center and it kicks off at 7 p.m. Tickets are $26 each and a whole table is $206 which buys an evening of dancing, music and a night of fun.
Then, on Sunday, there’s a bowling party at MaxBowl on Regional Drive. This fundraiser, which begins at noon, raises money for our furry friends through Pups in Peril and PAWS.
Finally, if you get an hour free in the evening over the next few days, please check out the Watoto Children’s Choir. The choir is made up of Ugandan orphans, but it is hard to believe they’re not professionally trained musicians, with their perfect timing and tempo.
No matter what you choose, don’t stay inside. Come on out, join the fun and let’s enjoy Mardi Gras season.
