Burney Martin Baque

Burney Martin Baque, 78, of Port Arthur, formerly of Sabine Pass, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 in Groves.

Burney was born on August 16, 1938 in Beaumont, Texas to parents Lillian Marie (Peltier) and Stephen Lee Baque. He was a lifelong resident of Sabine Pass; living the last 2 years in Port Arthur. Burney was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Burney was owner and operator of Baque’s Grocery Store in Sabine Pass from 1959 until 1999; he enjoyed making boudain for the store and after he retired for family and friends. He also enjoyed working in his garden. Burney was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Billy Baque.

Burney is survived by his wife, Rosetta Slade French of Port Arthur, TX; son, Martin L. Baque and wife, Dora for Fannett, TX; his daughters, Stephanie D. Helms and husband, Gary of Eagle, OH, Bernice Baque of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Christian Burial Service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 2 PM at the funeral home, with Rev. David Edwards officiate. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
