The NJCAA and Team IP Inc. announced a joint campaign to aid member colleges and their communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
Team IP has designed a special T-shirt, “Texas Strong – #NJCAACares”, up for purchase with all proceeds going to a special fund to be distributed to NJCAA Region 14 to aid its colleges, including Lamar State College Port Arthur, and its communities.
“We have been in constant contact with Region 14 leadership this week and are thankful that all student-athletes, administrators and their families are OK thus far,” NJCAA CEO Chris Parker said in a news release. “With that being said, the destruction and devastation facing our members in that area as the storm passes is tragic. The NJCAA is a close-knit organization. We are a big family that stretches across the country and we had to do something to aid our member colleges in need. We are fortunate to have a great partner in Team IP to help us with this effort, and I want to challenge all our member colleges and their fans as well as all our partners to participate in this relief campaign.”
Bulk orders of 24 or more for the shirts are $15 per shirt and will yield the most benefits for the cause, according to the release, and may be ordered by contacting Team IP at 877-821-8643 or 772-398-4664 by Sept. 8.
Single orders (direct to garment) are $24.99 each, plus shipping and handling, and can be placed online at www.teamip.com/njcaa/ or by clicking on the image. Online orders of 24 or more will be given a 40 percent discount ($14.99 per shirt plus shipping and handling).
Also Thursday, the Southland Conference in NCAA Division I on Thursday announced a contribution of $100,000 to the American Red Cross for storm relief efforts.
“All of us in the Southland Conference are devastated by the unparalleled flooding and destruction, and the heartbreaking personal impacts the storm has had in our Gulf Coast communities,” Southland Commissioner Tom Burnett said in a release.
Harvey made landfall last Friday near Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and this week impacted Houston, Beaumont and Lake Charles, homes to Houston Baptist, Lamar and McNeese State universities.
