Andrew Landry had a great day Friday in the second round of Web.com Tour’s
first playoff event, while Chris Stroud was steady and solid in the opening round of the Fed Ex Cup’s second playoff stop at the TPC Boston.
Landry, after shooting a 3-under-par 68 over Ohio State’s Scarlett Course on Thursday, backed it up with a 67. His 36-hole total leaves him outright third, three shots behind leader Keith Mitchell in the Nationwide Hospital Children’s Championship.
Stroud, meanwhile, shot an even par 71 to end the day tied for 29th in the Dell Technologies Championship. He’s five shots off the lead of Dustin Johnson. Four players, including Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm, carded 67s.
Playing not only for himself but for a PGA Tour Houston area fundraiser, Stroud made birdies at the par-5 second and the par-4 18th. His bogeys came on the par-4 ninth and the par 4 11th.
Stroud, in order to advance to the third round of the FedEx playoffs, needs to be in the top 70 in points after play concludes on Monday. He started at No. 78. Based on Friday’s round he is up to 68.
Round two will air from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday on the Golf Channel.
Landry played a bogey-free round in Columbus, Ohio, to earn a spot in the final pairing of the third round with Mitchell and Seth Reeves. With a PGA Tour card already assured, he’s trying to cash a big check and improve his position for the 2017-18 season.
Round 3 in Columbus airs on the Golf Channel from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
