BEAUMONT — Perhaps another sign of a return to normalcy is the disaster recovery updates given each week at the commissioners court meeting is growing shorter.
The Jefferson County Commissioners Court was held Monday afternoon at the courthouse. County Judge Jeff Branick said the county has moved from one debris truck for each of the four precincts to now 28 trucks picking up debris. In fact, 5,196 cubic feet of debris was picked up on Saturday the judge called a record.
In addition, the Texas Department of Transportation is assisting in debris removal in unincorporated areas and sent in 56 trucks.
“They’re doing a really great job in unincorporated areas,” Branick said.
The county, furthermore, will be reimbursed 92 percent because Jefferson County had a pre-disaster cleanup plan before Tropical Storm Harvey hit.
The contract calls for DRC Emergency Services to make three passes. Residents are reminded to make sure debris is placed at the curb.
DRC can’t go down roads that aren’t a public right-of-way unless they get a right of entry from the owners.
Everette “Bo” Alfred, Precicnt 4 commissioner, urged residents to be patient while waiting to get their debris picked up.
He estimates there’s as much trash now as there was for the first pass.
