There are still many in our area who need help

While we have heard a lot of good things about the recovery—and there are indeed some great stories of recovery—let’s remember that not everyone has recovered.
This week we published a story about some people in Port Arthur who, for one reason or another, could not leave their mold-infested homes.
Today we’ve got a story about people who still need help from FEMA because they have not had help from anywhere else. And, of course, our “Your Take” today is focused on the remaining needs of our citizens.
Our churches, our Red Cross, our Salvation Army and a legion of volunteers from the Cajun Army and more have given so much, and these organizations deserve our thanks. But there is still much work to be done and we urge anyone who can to please donate either time or money. Commissioner Shane Sinegal is seeking volunteers to strip houses and there are many non-profits seeking donations for those in need.
If you are beginning to make progress, if your home is under repair or if it has been repaired, you are among the lucky. However, let us not forget those are still without and let us try to do something for them.
